Electric cars may not be a long-term solution for sustainable transportation, said experts during a panel on the history of alternative transportation and vehicles during Campus Sustainability Day. Panelists voiced doubts about the practicality of electric cars, casting doubt on whether the battery powered vehicles will fulfill California’s long-term needs for affordable nonpolluting transportation.

William Hearst Scholar Samantha Barton Discovers Cure for Freshman Blues

Samantha Barton ’10 (Kinesiology) spent her freshman year locked up in her dorm room struggling with homesickness. Barton grew up in Trona, Calif., which has a population of only 2,000, so coming to California State University, Northridge was overwhelming. Her emotions spiraled further out of control when her father’s health declined and she couldn’t return home.
