‘Diversity’ and ‘Tolerance” Central Themes at Annual Freshman Celebration

The 2010 Freshman Celebration is a yearly exhibition of presentations by students in University 100 classes. This year, many freshman students opted to expand upon themes from “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” the book selected for the 2010-11 Freshman Common Reading Program. About 60 projects and displays were featured at the event.

Unified We Serve, Cal State Northridge’s campus volunteer program, collected more than 13,750 canned food and clothing items during its second annual campus-wide campaign. The items were donated to MEND (Meet Each Need with Dignity), a Pacoima-based private social service agency.

The Moscow State Symphony Orchestra brings Lyrical Brilliance to the Valley Performing Arts Center

A hush descended on the audience at the Valley Performing Arts Center at California State University, Northridge as members of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra awaited the first movement of conductor Pavel Kogan’s baton. The full-house of 1,700 were transported to Italy as the symphony’s lyrical and spirited interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien, Op. 45 filled the hall with joyous sound. At the piece’s conclusion, the orchestra and conductor took numerous bows to wild applause.
