CHIME Students to ‘Discover How the West Was Fun’
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Mar. 19th, 2009) ― The students at CHIME Institute’s Arnold Schwarzenegger Charter Elementary School, which has extensive ties to Cal State Northridge, invite their friends and neighbors to join them in discovering “How the West Was Fun” on Saturday, March 28.
The school’s annual spring carnival, which this year has a Wild West theme, will feature midway games, music and performances by members of Cirque du Soleil and Jumbo Shrimp Circus. The carnival is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school, located at 19722 Collier St. in Woodland Hills.
“Each year, the carnival provides us an opportunity to celebrate what we do and share some old-fashioned fun with our friends and neighbors,” said Julie Fabrocini, education director for the CHIME Institute and principal of the Schwarzenegger school.
Admission is $5. Activity and food tickets will be available for 50 cents each. Proceeds from the carnival will support the school’s art, music and library programs.
For more information about the carnival, call the school at (818) 346-5100.
The CHIME Institute’s Arnold Schwarzenegger Charter Elementary School and its sister campus, CHIME Charter Middle School, are independent schools that provide free public education through affiliation with the Los Angeles Unified School District. The schools serve as demonstration and teacher-training sites for Cal State Northridge’s Michael D. Eisner College of Education. The California Charter Schools Association named the elementary school “Charter School of the Year” in 2005.
Both schools are part of the CHIME Institute, located in part at Cal State Northridge, which is a national leader in developing and implementing model educational programs and dynamic research and training environments to disseminate best practices in inclusive education. The institute’s research and training center is housed in the Eisner College of Education.
The CHIME Institute also offers an infant/toddler program and preschool/kindergarten inclusion program that is located at CSUN. The charter schools serve students from kindergarten through eighth grade and are located in Woodland Hills and Chatsworth. CHIME has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a national model for full inclusion of students with disabilities and for providing a blueprint for local schools across the country.
