Cal State Northridge’s NCOD to Hold its Second De’VIA Art Show
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Oct. 26th, 2009) ―
The diversity of art is equally as important as the diversity of the artists themselves. Cal State Northridge’s National Center on Deafness will celebrate this diversity at its De’VIA (Deaf View/Image Art) Art Show.
The Second CSUN NCOD Stars Gala De’VIA Art Auction and Awards Program will feature about 20 paintings and artworks created by deaf artists. The paintings provide a different lens on the world and insights into the unique cultural experiences within the deaf community.
The show will run from Nov. 2 to 13 in Chisholm Hall Room 205 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Chisholm Hall, on the southeast end of campus is located at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
After the show’s 11-day engagement, NCOD will host an art auction and awards program on Nov. 14 at the Northridge Center in the University Student Union (USU). The USU is located on the east side of campus.
The gala will be from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m., which will feature Academy Award winning actress Marlee Matlin and Ed Waterstreet, artistic director of the Deaf West Theatre as auctioneers.
“The purpose is two-fold,” said Roz Rosen, director of CSUN’s National Center on Deafness. “The first purpose is to celebrate our unique American Sign Language, culture and community. Second, it’s to raise funds that are much needed for student scholarships and programs at CSUN.”
NCOD was established in 1964 and offers quality in communications, connections and community, across the whole spectrum of the university – academics, co-curricular programs and residential living. It also provides information and training for service providers, professionals, families, teens, alumni, and managers in knowledge, skills and leadership development. NCOD is the western states site for PEPNet, a federally funded intensive in-service training, resource center and outreach program.
