SANTA BARBARA, Calif.: Vincent Cordell’s only basket was a layup with 11.8 seconds that gave Cal State Northridge a 72-70 win over UC Santa Barbara on Thursday.
Josh Jenkins led Cal State Northridge (8-10, 5-3 Big West Conference) with 13 points and five assists, including the assist to Cordell.
Jordan Weiner missed a 3-point attempt in the closing seconds for Santa Barbara (8-12, 2-6).
Chris Devine led the Gauchos with 12 rebounds and 16 points, including two free throws to put his team ahead 66-65 with 2:35 left. Weiner’s 3-pointer tied the game with 1:30, but Santa Barbara was held to one free throw the rest of the game.
Northridge’s Kenny Daniels scored nine of his team-high 14 points in the second half. Tremaine Townsend added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Rodrigue Mels also scored 13 for the Matadors, who led 39-33 at halftime.
