Vincent Cordell’s only basket was a layup with 11.8 seconds left that gave Cal State Northridge a 72-70 win at UC Santa Barbara on Thursday.

Josh Jenkins led CSUN (8-10, 5-3 Big West Conference) with 13 points and five assists, including the final pass to Cordell.

Jordan Weiner missed a 3-point attempt in the closing seconds for Santa Barbara (8-12, 2-6).

Weiner’s 3-pointer tied the game with 1:30, but Santa Barbara was held to one free throw the rest of the game.

CSUN’s Kenny Daniels scored nine of his team-high 14 points in the second half. Tremaine Townsend added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Rodrigue Mels also scored 13 for the Matadors, who led 39-33 at halftime.

Pepperdine 69, San Francisco 67: Freshman guard Keion Bell hit 13 of 14 shots from the field for a career-best 32 points, leading the Waves (5-17, 2-4 WCC)over the host Dons (8-13, 0-6).

Pepperdine, which ended a four-game losing streak, also beat USF for the first time in four years.

Women’s basketball

California 64, UCLA 48: Ashley Walker scored 17 points to lead the No. 7 Golden Bears (17-2, 8-0) at home over the Bruins (14-5, 5-3). Doreena Campell scored 13 points for UCLA.

Stanford 81, USC 53: Jayne Appel scored 19 points and freshman center Sarah Boothe added a season-best 16 points to lead the No. 9 Cardinal (16-4, 7-1 Pac-10) past the Trojans (11-8, 5-3).

Camille LeNoir scored 18 points to lead the Trojans, who lost their eighth straight at Stanford.LeNoir has 1,208 career points and is closing in on Cheryl Miller for fifth (414) on the school’s all-time assists list.

Pepperdine 73, San Francisco 47: Miranda Ayim hit 9 of 15 shots and scored a game-high 19 points to go with eight rebounds for the Waves (10-10, 3-3 WCC).
