Native American pitcher and Reno resident Larry Ramirez to be inducted into CSUN’s baseball Hall of Fame

(February 27, 2009)

– Staff reports

Native American pitcher and Reno resident Larry Ramirez will be inducted into the California State Northridge Baseball Hall of Fame on Saturday. He’ll be inducted with other members of the 1970 College Division National Championship team.

Ramirez, a high-kicking, hard-throwing right-hander, pitched a five-hitter against Missouri State, striking out 10 batters to put CSUN into the championship.

He is the first Native American athlete to pitch a winning complete game in the College World Series and was inducted into the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.
