DAVIS, Calif. — Junior Kenny Daniels had 24 points, six rebounds and two steals to help lead Cal State Northridge to a 99-72 win over UC Davis on Thursday night.
Rodrigue Mels had 18 points and five rebounds, and Tremaine Townsend added 15 points and three rebounds for the Northridge Matadors (15-12, 11-4), who clinched at least a share of the Big West Conference title.
Vince Oliver had 13 points and three rebounds, and Joe Harden added 12 points and nine rebounds for the UC Davis Aggies (12-18, 7-9 Big West), who already have clinched their first-ever berth in the Big West Tournament.
Tied 34-34, Mels made a 3-point shot and an 18-foot basket with 40 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Matadors a 39-34 halftime advantage.
The Aggies (14) and the Matadors (12) combined for 26 turnovers in the first half.
After the Matadors went to a smaller lineup against the Aggies, Northridge built up an 89-64 lead on two free throws by Daniels with 4:24 left to play in the second half. The Aggies never got closer than 10 points in the second half.
The Matadors can win the Big West regular-season title outright with a victory over Pacific on Saturday in Stockton, Calif.
