ANDERSON, William (Bill) Davis (70), of Woodland Hills, CA died Monday, April 27, 2009 at West Valley Healthcare Center, West Hills, CA from complications of a hemorrhagic stroke’s side-effects in 2005 and colonostomy surgery in 2009. Bill was born September 25, 1938 in Dallas, TX the son of the late William Dilworth Anderson and the late Katherine Watts Anderson. He graduated Waxahachie, TX High School in 1956 receiving his degrees in English Literature from The University of Texas (Austin) including his Doctorate of Philosophy in 1966. Dr. Anderson accepted a Professor of English Literature position in the School of Humanities with the California State University at Northridge where he was a team member holding various committee titles, including Department Chair. His teaching techniques earned him the Distinguished Teacher Award. Upon his 1997 retirement Bill was honored with the Professor Emeritus title.
Bill was dedicated and devoted to his profession through authoring numerous scholarly articles, including one of his favorite authors Vladimir Nabokov. He co-authored text books including “A New Look at Children’s Literature” and “Criticism: Major Statements”, still available in print by Macmillan Publishing. Bill was an avid reader as he had several novels in his possession at any time reading hundreds each year. He loved the Arts and was a longtime subscriber donor supporting the Los Angeles Opera and a former subscriber to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Bill is survived by life-partner Frank Nemceff and their four cats - Chloe, Barry, Bart, and Olympia, and distant cousins. Private Graveside Funeral/Burial Services at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles will be on Thursday, April 30, 2009.
