Dozen UC Davis students flash flesh to protest fee hikes

About a dozen UC Davis students flashed a bit of flesh today to protest University of California President Mark Yudof’s proposal to raise fees 30 percent over the next year.

The scantily clad student protesters said their lack of attire was to symbolize that students are “being stripped” of their right to accessible, quality public education.

During the protest on the north end of the UC Davis quad, the students held signs across their midsections that made them appear naked from the front. However, the students were wearing bathing suits or underwear.

One of the signs said: “Yudof is stripping the student body.”

Protesters carried out their action during a busy day on the quad when clubs, fraternities and sororities staffed information tables in an attempt to interest other students to join their organizations.

The protesters chanted “Higher tuition, we can’t make it. Three more grand, we’ll get naked.” and “Oppose Yudof. Take it off, take it off.”

The protesters urged other students to participate in a walkout of classes on Thursday, in which students, labor unions and faculty at all UC campuses are expected to protest state budget cuts.
