Citing the contentious resignation of Town Manager David Andrews, a candidate for the Oro Valley Town Council now says he plans to run for mayor.
Michael Zinkin, former chairman of the development review board, said he wants to be elected mayor after the emotional meeting that led to Andrews’ resignation.
“It was after this action that I changed my mind and decided to oppose Paul Loomis in his quest for another term as Mayor,” Zinkin said in an e-mail to The Explorer.
Explanations given by Loomis and the other council members who forced Andrews’ hand in resigning also motivated Zinkin to run for mayor.
“What these ‘issues’ and ‘things’ are continue to be a mystery, but the actions of the mayor have motivated me to oppose him in the upcoming election,” Zinkin wrote.
Zinkin originally threw his hat in to run for the council.
He has lived in Oro Valley since 1998, moving to the community after he retired from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Zinkin holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona and a master’s degree from California State University, Northridge.
Dentist Satish Hiremath has announced his plans to run for mayor.
