Counselors and colleges make a big push to encourage incoming freshmen to apply for financial aid. But the financial-aid process hardly ends with the start of freshman year. Students have to meet certain criteria to remain eligible for aid, and must pay attention to how any debt they take on affects their time in college and beyond.
