California State University, Stanislaus is changing its schedule and dropping its winter term, partly because of budget cuts.
The change, announced Tuesday, is effective for the 2010-11 school year. Instead of a four-week winter term sandwiched between 13-week fall and spring semesters, officials are extending fall and spring semesters to 15 weeks with a three-week “intersession” in between.
Officials expect to save $1.2 million. Courses taken during the intersession will cost more than those during the regular school year, although officials say financial aid will be available.
President Ham Shirvani says the change also puts the university on a more traditional schedule.
The winter term, which gives students the chance to explore new fields or study overseas, was created in 1973 to boost enrollment
