CS Northridge 4, UCR 1 in men’s soccer

Kim Russell and Nicolette Mather had 13 kills apiece as Biola University upset visiting California Baptist University, 25-20, 25-20, 24-26, 25-21, Saturday night in a Golden State Athletic Conference women’s volleyball match.

Cal Baptist, No. 2 in the NAIA national rankings, had 53 kills but also committed 29 hitting errors. The Lancers won the previous conference match with No.11-ranked Biola, 3-1, in September.

Ingrid Carmona had 14 kills to lead Cal Baptist (23-3, 13-3 in GSAC). Fei Shi and Melissa Adelina had 11 apiece.

Katie Stevens had a match-high 21 digs to lead Biola (18-8, 9-6).

MORE VOLLEYBALL

CS San Bernardino 3, Humboldt State 0 - - Ashtin Hall recorded 13 kills and 14 digs as the Coyotes swept host Humboldt State, 25-20, 25-23, 25-20, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match.

Hall, a senior outside hitter from Yucaipa, had six kills in the opening game to help Cal State (24-1, 17-1 in CCAA) take the early lead.

Megan Johnson led the No. 3-ranked Coyotes with 14 kills, and Jane Chafeh (Riverside Notre Dame) added 10. Norco alum Camille Smith led the defensive effort with 16 digs.

Callin Finley had nine kills to lead Humboldt (7-19, 3-15).

UC Davis 3, UCR 0 - - Tonbara Youpele had a team-high 10 kills, but the Highlanders fell to host UC Davis, 25-19, 25-23, 25-11, in a Big West Conference match.

UCR (4-17, 2-9 in Big West) had 33 kills in the match but also had 27 hitting errors. The Highlanders were seeking to win back-to-back matches for the first time this season.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cal Baptist 4, Concordia 1 - - Amanda Lammers scored three second-half goals as California Baptist University won a Golden State Athletic Conference match.

The Lancers (14-3-1, 7-3 in GSAC) took the lead when Lammers found the back of the net in the 50th minute.

Concordia (8-5-3, 5-4-1) responded 49 seconds later, as Sasha Hudson scored the equalizer.

Lammers, a sophomore midfielder from Calvary Murrieta, added goals in the 56th and 82nd minutes and assisted on Britney Quiroz’s goal in the 79th minute.

Redlands 4, La Verne 0 — Maddy Phillips recorded a natural hat trick as the Terriers won a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.

Phillips gave Redlands (11-6, 9-3 in SCIAC) the lead, scoring in the 16th minute off an assist from Chelsea Halfley. Phillips added goals in the 54th and 62 minutes.

Emily Birzak capped the scoring with a goal in the 76th minute.

MEN’S SOCCER

Cal Baptist 3, Concordia 0 - - Josh Cormier had a goal and an assist as the Lancers knocked off No.24-ranked Concordia in a GSAC match.

Cal Baptist (5-6-4, 4-5-1) took a quick 2-0 lead, with Cormier scoring in the third minute and setting up a goal by Michael Corral in the ninth minute.

Gabriel Gonzalez scored on a penalty kick late in the first half.

Jeff Redinger made five saves for the shutout.

CS Northridge 4, UCR 1 - - Cal State Northridge scored three unanswered goals in the second half to down visiting UC Riverside in a Big West Conference match.

UCR (1-14-1, 0-7-1 in Big West) trailed early, but Joel Garcia scored the equalizer just before halftime.

Northridge (8-7-2, 3-4-1) pulled away in the second half, as Chad Borak, Daniel Yoon and Cameron Sims scored goals within 13 minutes of each other.

CROSS COUNTRY

SCIAC Championships — The University of Redlands men’s and women’s teams each finished fourth at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships at Prado Park in Chino.

Katie Ostrinski led the women with a seventh-place finish, completing the 6-kilometer course in 24 minutes, 5.47 seconds. Kelly Luck and Heather Mayer placed 13th and 14th, respectively, for the Bulldogs.

Jeremy Kalmus was the top placer on the men’s side (18th), finishing the 8-kilometer course in 26:57.34.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Cal Baptist 7, Redlands 5 - - Aaron Steiger scored a match-high five goals as the Lancers topped Redlands in a non-conference match.

Austin Ramer made seven saves for Cal Baptist (20-6)

Erik Grosshans scored two goals and Teddy Trowbridge had 10 saves to lead Redlands (12-16).

Cal Baptist 16, Chapman 10 - - Steiger scored six goals earlier to lead the Lancers to a non-conference win.

Steiger and Brent Troutman scored two goals apiece to give Cal Baptist an early 4-0 lead. Troutman finished with four goals.

Redlands 20, Caltech 3 - - Matt Zaggy scored four goals and Jordan Suazo added three as the Terriers cruised to a SCIAC victory.

Jessie Gunter made six saves in goal for Redlands.
