CSUB women’s volleyball sweeps Cal State Northridge

Cal State Bakersfield earned its first men’s swimming dual meet win of the season Saturday, capturing all but two events in a 152-104 win over the University of the Pacific.

CSUB dominated the sprint freestyle events, placing 1-2-3 in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free. The winners were Kevin Miller in the 50 (21.65), Mark Silvius in the 100 (47.70) and Keenan Natyzak in the 200 (1:42.64).

CSUB also went 1-2-3 in the 100 breast, which was won by Jay Jones (1:56.79).

Chad McKenzie and Luka Leskur had three first-place finishes apiece. McKenzie won the 200 breast (2:10.68) and 200 IM (1:55.94) and was on the winning 200 medley relay team.

Leskur won the 100 back (52.40) and 200 back (1:54.88) and was also on the winning medley relay team.

The Roadrunner women lost 151-109 at UOP on Saturday.

CSUB’s Rachel McCall won the 100 breast (1:06.54) and 100 free (1:54.01) and Stephanie Donnelly won the 200 back (2:09.80) while placing second in the 100 back (1:00.86) and 100 fly (59.49).

Rachel Holm was second in the 200 breast (2:28.28) and she was third in the 200 IM (2:14.14) and 100 breast (season-best time of 1:08.97).

Louise Westergren and Brooke Penney went 2-3 in the 100 (25.00 and 25.21) and Penney was third in the 100 free (55.70).

Leah Felber was second in the 500 free (5:23.03); Michelle Kroll was third in the 100 and 200 back events (1:02.82 and 2:14.80) and Renee Roy was third in the 1,000 free (11:24.41).

CSUB volleyball

CSUB concluded a season sweep of Cal State Northridge Friday, winning 25-21, 17-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-13 at the Matadome in Northridge.

CSUB (11-13 overall) scored six of the final eight points in the fifth set to overcome an 11-9 deficit. Northridge fell to 7-16.

Lindy DeGeare and Alysia Baker led a balanced CSUB attack with 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Freshman right side hitter Morgan Pettway added a career-high nine kills.

JC wrestling

Zach Weldon won the 184 pound title at the Cuest College Invitational helping Bakersfield College finish in sixth place as a team. Vince Rivera also had a good day finishing second a 133 pounds. Bakersfield will host the WSC championships beginning November 7 at 11 a.m.
