SherriLyn Dobrzeniecki (Sher Dobie)

Grade/subject, school: Special Education Department Head at Fall Creek Valley Middle School in Lawrence Township.

Number of years teaching: 20.

Background/Schooling: Bachelor’s degree from California State University-Northridge; master’s degree from Capital University at the University of Dayton.

Why did you become a teacher: My passion has always been to work with and develop students. I’m still a child at heart and love being with the students. They keep me young.

What goals do you have for your students: My wish is to encourage each child to find his/her strengths and utilize those strengths to reach their personal goals. Also, never be afraid to ask for help.

What do you encourage parents to do at home to help their children strengthen particular skills: Stay involved in their child’s school; ask the child daily to tell you one thing he/she learned that day; provide a consistent time and place free from distractions for homework; monitor your child’s homework and grades.

Name your favorite movie: “Patch Adams.”

Name your favorite musician or band: Dave Matthews Band and Goo Goo Dolls.

What’s something your students might not know about you: I also teach Pilates out of my home.
