Site of the Week: Megarotic.com - The Review (11.11.2008)
I’d like to review a site at least once a week to better familiarize some of you with whats out there as well as where to go to get the best “bang” for your buck. (Even if it doesn’t cost you a thing!)
This week’s site is www.megarotic.com. Think of it as the YouTube of porn! Don’t like wasting hard drive space? Don’t like having to hide your folders from family or other loved ones? Then Megarotic will work out perfectly for you.
Megarotic is a streaming site with a full search function that will allow you to find whatever you’re looking for- may it be tasteful or just plain weird (remember, we’re not here to judge). Because you stream the videos directly from the site you won’t have to worry about eating up your hard drive space. There are two forms of membership (Basic or Premium). Basic allows you to watch up to eight videos a day and even upload some of your own stuff if you feel like sharing. However Premium allows you to watch an unlimited amount of videos and access to some videos only Premium members can watch.
The Basic access of only eight videos a day may seem restricting, but with the price tag of FREE its awful hard to complain. Megarotic also doesn’t completely bash you with non-stop pop-ups everytime you click on a link. There are still adverts on the side bars and just one pop-up link over the video you are currently watching (this can fortunately be x-ed out). If you don’t feel like watching the entire video, there is a time bar at the bottom allowing you to move to whichever specific part you’d want to get to. Think of it as a superfast forward to the money shot!
Sites like Megarotic are quite mainstream in today’s pornographic internet distribution, so you can trust its not going anywhere. Its not like napster/kazaa/bearshare where you live with the paranoia of being punished for “stealing” porn. Too many sites require you to gamble and take a chance with them, its good to know that there is more of a choice out there especially if you’re not comfortable shelling out your credit card numbers and hard earned cash for one particular genre of porn.

Though it’s not perfect, its definitely worth a check out.

I must say that I have never actually watched pornography (although for research purposes decided to see what all the hype was about.) I think it’s interesting that you guys have decided to blog on this topic. As a broader line of questioning let me pose this question to The Young Pornographers: What insight or knowledge would you guys like the audience to walk away from?

What I would like to see here is less endorsement and more analysis. It doesn’t take an academic blog to tell us how to “shop” for porn; those who want to do that already have plenty of commercial assistance. What WE need in 313 is some consideration of what porn reveals, culturally, or what its production entails socially and economically.
For instance, what of the various cliches and genres of porn?
What of ethnic/racial representation, for instance? What of humor, or its lack?
What of the interaction between porn video production and other areas of cultural production, for instance the blogosphere? Is there a mainstreaming of porn going on, as some claim?

Porn is definitely in the main stream of our society in all cases it is admired by all ethnicity. Porn has been in our lives since the dawn of film, books and of course our on going web. sites just recently I went to a party there was even a porn room, and I was not surprise it was filled up to capacity. It was filled up by everyone from all different background. My point is that no matter where you go you will always find that porn is in the mainstream of all culture and society. It is a form of enjoyment that is enjoyed by everyone.

well, me liking porn as well, i am not a freak, we all watch it dont lie to yourself, and if you have never watched it before, you are missing out. i never actually knew about this cite it is all that saus says it is. i was cerious so ya i did check it out, but it wasnt really my thing. i am going to tell you guys about the cite i like alot its called youporn.com. ya i have regualr cites as well lol. check it out you guys will like it.
