Your score on the Entry Level Math (ELM) test means that you need developmental coursework, which must be completed by the end of your first year at the University. CSUN is committed to helping you meet this requirement. We are pleased to offer you two ways to make real progress this summer. Taking advantage of one or more of these special summer programs is a wonderful way to get off to the best possible start at CSUN. Talk to your CSUN advisor to learn more.

Option 1: CHAMPS (CHoose A Math Path to Success) Online Available starting April 18, 2011

If your score on the Entry Level Math (ELM) exam was below 50, the CHAMPS Online math program is a low-cost, self-paced tutorial program with personal tutoring that can help you place out of or reduce the need for developmental math. For details, visit: www.csun.edu/devmath/champs.shtml

Option 2: Early Start. July 13, 2011 – August 23, 2011

Early Start offers a set of linked classes to help you gain the skills and knowledge you will need to succeed in college. During Early Start, you can:

  • Finish one required developmental math course by completing Math 092 or Math 099 (depending on your ELM score)
  • Earn 3 units of General Education credit by successfully completing University 100 (Freshman Seminar). For details visit: http://blogs.csun.edu/ugs/early-start-program-summer-2011 and http://www.csun.edu/univ100/
  • Learn about the campus, make new friends and learn valuable skills and knowledge that have been proven to contribute to the success of first-year students.
