California has an almost year-round sunny season, and because sun damage is <u><a href=\"https:\/\/skincancer.net\/life-with-skin-cancer\/cumulative-sun-exposure\/\">cumulative<\/a><\/u>, we have to be sure to protect our skin and eyes. Sunscreen is a good start, but there are other ways to increase your defenses against sun damage.<!--more--><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Avoid direct sun between 10 AM and 4 PM. This is when <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theweathernetwork.com\/us\/forecasts\/uv\/california\/northridge\">harmful ultraviolet rays<\/a><\/u> are at their most potent. Try to stand or sit in the shade.<\/li>\n<li>Wear protective clothing. No, you don\u2019t have to be<u><a href=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/i\/pix\/2017\/11\/17\/11\/467080DC00000578-5092425-image-m-14_1510917101343.jpg\"> covered head to toe<\/a><\/u>, but you can put on a <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/style\/2015\/04\/how-to-wear-a-grown-up-hat\/dont-wear-hats-with-everything\">wide brim hat<\/a><\/u> to help shield your face from the sun. Long sleeves can prevent a farmer\u2019s tan, and <u><a href=\"https:\/\/nei.nih.gov\/hvm\/healthy_eyes_glasses\">sunglasses with UV protection<\/a><\/u> are an absolute necessity to keep eye damage at bay.<\/li>\n<li>If you wear makeup, pick products with SPF values in addition to your regular sunscreen. Many moisturizers, foundations, concealers, and even <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulta.com\/spf-50-sunscreen-rose-water-setting-spray?productId=xlsImpprod17751141\">setting sprays<\/a><\/u> are made with skin-protecting ingredients. Alone they are not effective enough against sun damage, but together they can boost your resistance to sun damage.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Take a trick from the ladies of the 18th century and <u><a href=\"https:\/\/janeaustensworld.wordpress.com\/2011\/05\/26\/18th-century-umbrellas\/\">carry a parasol<\/a><\/u>. With a parasol or umbrella, standing in line for an outdoor event or strolling nature on a sunny day becomes a fanciful affair.
